-Bands. Made with tooth-colored or clear material or stainless steel, the bands are cemented to the teeth and wrapped around each tooth to serve as an anchor for the brace's brackets. Although more expensive than ordinary steel bands, colored bands make for a more fashionable look. Not all braces have bands, though.

-Arch wires. Made of metal or tooth-colored material, these serve as tracks to guide the teeth to their correct positions.

-Ties. These fasten the arch to the brackets and are made of fine wires or tiny rubber rings. Colored ties are favored by young people to make them look trendy.

-Ligatures. Holding the arch wires to the brackets, these are small elastic rubber bands.

-Spacers. Before orthodontic bands are placed, a small space has to be created and this is where spacers come in. They are actually separators that are fitted between teeth.

-Springs. They serve to open, close, push, or pull the spaces between the teeth and are placed on the arch wires found between the brackets.

-Rubber bands or elastics. They apply additional pressure, moving the upper teeth against the lower ones, in order to achieve a perfect fit between individual teeth. They are attached to the small hooks on the brackets and are worn in different ways.

In some cases, facebow headgears may be required, but inventors are coming up with new ways of making choosing good braces and teeth with braces look better. Sometimes, you won't even be able to tell that you're looking at teeth with braces because they may be transparent or hidden from view.
