Kids' Braces

Many kids do not have a perfect set of teeth. Some may have crooked teeth while others have uneven size of upper and lower jaws, better referred to as malocclusion. If you are one of them, your dentist might have noticed one of these problems when you have your regular dentist visit and recommend that you see an orthodontist to determine whether your kids needs braces.

Kids? braces are used for kids who do not have straight teeth. These straighten the teeth by putting a steady pressure on the teeth and leaving them in place for a certain duration. Regular braces with wires and rubber bands help move your teeth and correct the alignment. In some cases, you have to wear head or neck gear with wires attached to your teeth to make the braces work even better.

There are different types of kids' braces for you to choose from. The most common that you see are the metal braces. These are still widely used but most kids these days prefer the clear braces, which have the same color as your teeth. You can also opt for braces that are placed behind the teeth so they will not be noticeable.

Having kids' braces is really an effective way to straighten teeth. However, you have to keep in mind that these also act like magnet for food, so you really have to brush often and work at keeping your teeth clean. Your orthodontist will advise you on the proper way of brushing and flossing foods that are stuck in your braces.

Kids' braces can be very inconvenient. But, they can be worth all the trouble when you get to see the results after they are removed, especially when you can now flash that beautiful smile.
